  • Anime: Japanese cartoon turned into a culture - by Sean Bateman

I been a big fan of anime for over twenty five years and I have seen so many anime movies and series out there. There are conventions like Anime North in Toronto in May and Anime Evolution in Seancouver, I mean Vancouver, in June. It's a culture for otakus alike. The word 'otaku' is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly anime, manga/graphic novels, and video games, in which I own many different styles of the three. Therefore, I am an otaku and you can ask me on which anime movie you want to scare…  Read Full Story »

  • Sean Bateman's Top Ten Favorite Songs of all time - by Sean Bateman

    10) Sirius & Eye the Sky by Alan Parsons Project An amazing instrumental to start off his classic hit followed by the soft tones of the Alan Parsons Project. 9) Big Balls by AC/DC A hit with giant fortitude that the Aussie Metal gods belted out in the 1970s and a local radio personality covered perfectly at the former Wednesday Karaoke party night at Rossland's Flying Steamshovel. 8) Link by L'arc-en-Ciel A hit from the Japanese band L'arc-en-Ciel that was the opening theme of Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa. This song is a staple for Sean-a-tonin 7) Working…  Read Full Story »

  • Rossland Radio: The Alternative Radio station - by Sean Bateman

As I turn on the radio to 101.1 FM one day, I heard a song I never heard on any other station in the area. It was by the Barenaked Ladies and it was amazing. After that song I heard a voice saying it was Rossland Radio Co-operative, a station that I host a show on. After, the Barenaked Ladies song was a Japanese band who covered Johnny Nash's I Can See Clearly Now in picture perfect english with The Ramones style tempo. Rossland Radio plays songs from the bands what you hear on the other radio stations, like Jump…  Read Full Story »

  • Last Sunrise - by Sean Bateman

Where will I see my last sunrise? Will it be on the Albertan plain? Will it be on a cruise? Or am I standing in the State of Maine? Who knows? I am still young, with a smile on my face, and singing an 1980s song. As I wait for it, I am gonna have fun, under the cold winter clouds, and the hot summer sun. I am on my twenties, Still have my whole life, ahead of me, without any strife. I will be counting down, my time here, so I can see it, without any fear.  Read Full Story »

  • It's Rossland, not Ross Vegas! - by Sean Bateman

For the past numerous years, I hear people call my hometown of scenic Rossland "Ross Vegas." I am sick and tired of people calling my personal Valhalla something to do with gambling and the Mafia. Let me clear a few things up about Rossland. First off, there is no CASINOS in Rossland and the only thing that has the Vegas feel in Rossland is places that sells pull tabs, scratch tickets and Keno. Second off, when is the last time you seen a big name musician in a Rossland? I don't know when the last time was. And third, we…  Read Full Story »

  • Literature and classic movies in anime/graphic novel form - by Sean Bateman

I think it is a good idea to put literature in graphic novel and anime form because it will help young minds out learn about the classic that the previous generations read back, like “Robinson Crusoe” and “Hamlet”, in their times in high school and in college. When reading the graphic novel and watching the anime version adaptations of the classics, the young minds can see what the artist’s take on the original version like. Disney did a science fiction version of “Treasure Island”, which got an Oscar nomination, and I think it would be nice to see a steam…  Read Full Story »
