Sadye Butler
simplicity of love

Thief

I thought I could get away
Steal a piece of tomorrow
And wished I could have stayed
Nothing left to say
I’ve picked up the missing pieces
Tried for a new start
Then you walk in like nothing has changed
And I feel the pain I’ll soon cause your heart
When looking into your ocean eyes
How do you lie to a blue sky?
I threw the stone into the water
Ripples flowed with the river
I felt my cheeks grow hotter
What’s done is done
But I think you should know
You’re not the only one with regrets
And I’m so jealous of your ability to forget
My heart burns with anger
With a love so strong I can’t breathe sometimes
I was young
Thought I had all the answers
Then you walked in and everything changed
Especially that day you held my gaze
I can’t promise anything
But I learned that time makes you realize the things you overlooked
It defines the cracked lines in our circle
But you were always good with mending
With lending your hand for stability
I would often send myself over the edge
While you waited on the ledge
Band-Aid in hand
How can I make you understand?
I want to get away
Steal a piece of tomorrow
Forget all about today
I want to walk into your arms
I want to stay.
