I guess no one ever told you
how cruel the world can be.
No one ever told you
how even if you’re nice and generous to those around you
and even if you ask for nothing in return
people will still pick you apart
and press your buttons
because making you feel like shit makes them feel good
or something like that
and you’ll never understand how making someone else feel small
and worthless
could make anyone walk away with a sense of accomplishment.
No one ever told you
that you can put all your time and effort into something you love
all your energy and strength
your heart and soul
and just when you least expect it
it will all blow up in your face
and the remains will linger around a little while just to remind you
what can happen when you let your guard down
and don’t watch your back closely enough.
No one ever told you
how random
your day can get
how one second everything can seem normal
and the next
nothing is right
No one ever told you
how hard it is to create something
and how easy it can be
to lose it.
No one ever told you
because by the time we figure all of this out
we usually decide that it’s better to not know
until we discover it on our own.
There is more that comes with it
you know?
Things that make the pain worth it all.
And those are the things you are told of.
You are told
how beautiful the world can be.
You are told
to be nice and generous to those around you
and to never ask for anything in return
because it will make other people feel good
and in turn you’ll feel good too
or something like that
and you’ll understand one day
how there is no need to make anyone else feel small
and worthless
in order for you to feel a sense accomplishment.
You are told
to put your time and effort into things you love
your energy and strength
your heart and soul
and to never give up
on those things you love.
You’ll make mistakes but learn from them
so they don’t turn into regrets.
You are told
to take life one step at a time
pace yourself
and to expect the unexpected
because you never know what could happen tomorrow
close your eyes with a clear conscience
make sure the people you love
know you love them
don’t sleep on bad terms
and don’t expect to wake. 
You are told
that once you create something
to be proud of your work
never lose it;
always name your price.
Always make your pleasures
worth your pain.
