Jeannine Danielle Delaney
passive,dancing,kiss,love,chance,yes

Passive,

he sat there
in the dark
on my couch
ready to let me walk away
ready to watch me go
but I already had my actions
planned out
this time
I had the perfect words
ready to follow a perfect action.
I leaned down
cupped my hands around his face
our noses touched
he chuckled like a nervous child.
I pressed my lips to his
soft
gentle.
He would have never guessed
how badly
I wanted to climb on top of him
how badly
I wanted him
right there.
It’s always been him.
I pulled my lips from his
and moved them
to his ear
my cheek grazing his
I wasn’t even nervous
there used to be a time
where getting that close to him
would make me weak in the knees.
I whispered:
You either like me
or you don’t.
You either want to give this a shot
or you don’t.
It should never be as hard
as he was making it
but I put myself out there
one last time
for him.
He took my hands
and pulled me close
“I don’t
know what I’m doing…
just,”
he sighed like it was exhausting him
like turning me down was getting tiring
which it was
“just give me a couple of days
alright?”
He wanted to be sure
I told him to be sure
but it shouldn’t be that hard.
Inside I knew
we would never happen
I knew he didn’t want me
and I thought it would hurt
but I guess I had already accepted it
I just never stopped trying
so I smiled
Yeah.
I stood
and I walked to my room
opened my bedroom door
crawled under the covers
closed my eyes
knowing that he
wouldn’t get any sleep
knowing that I was on his mind.
I also knew
that no matter what
everything was going to be okay.

A soft knock at my door
my eyes flicked open
a smile spread across my face
Come in.
I sat up
dangled my feet over the edge of my bed
waiting to face him
the door cracked open
he slowly walked up to me
took my hands
once more
but this time
the words that trailed that action
were exactly what I wanted to hear;
“I think
I choose yes.”
Our fingers laced
Yeah?
“Yes.”
Are you sure?
“You never know.
What do you say?”
Well, yes.
He leaned down
kissed me.
He crawled on top of me
kissed me harder
our tongues dancing
like never before.
