Samanta Fleming
card game, metaphor of life, greed

"His Suit"

He was given a set,
To play the game.
A matter of luck,
Is all he had.

Portraying different faces,
Wearing different colours-
Altering for different occasions-
Always for the benefit of himself.

But why?
Why does he fight solely for himself?
Wanting to win the match,
That cannot be won.

He shuffles through life-
With unbelievable pace,
Not thinking of what’s to come.
The inevitable awaits him at the end,

So why does he rush?
Doesn’t take time to ponder
The importance of life.

His life will pass.
When all his cards are gone-
He is done.
He finished off the others,
Wanting to take only for himself
And even in the end-
With his stack in hand,
Still he cannot avoid death.

Leaving without deep satisfaction-
Not what he imagined it to be.
